November 2015 Events

I moved to Chicago in September and have been doing a lot of teaching, as well as working on my final DMA document. I commissioned three composers to write new works for solo percussion and live electronics, with a specific requirement that electronics must manipulate or activate the acoustic properties of instruments in some way. I am very excited about the resulting pieces, which are: “Hysteresis” by Jeremy Muller, “Where Light Escapes You” by Jordan Munson, and “Resonant Textures” by Garth Paine. My document provides a history of similar works and techniques along with some background on the participating composers and the new works.

I traveled to Indianapolis in late October to work with Jordan Munson on his piece, and worked with Jeremy Muller and Garth Paine when I flew back to Phoenix to defend my paper and premiere the three pieces at the Arizona State University Art Museum. The recital went very well and had a great turn out, and I am now set to graduate in December with all degree requirements completed!
